Activist of the year

The three good friends took part in the new RSU SU project - "New Members' Seminar", and were quickly called "administrators" due to their interest in the position of administrator. Since then, all three have actively participated in the activities of RSU SU - Klāvs is the technical support administrator, Paulis is a member of the Council from the Faculty of Communications and Arnolds is currently in the team of ZGI organizers. "Administrators" have shown inherent loyalty to the organization by devoting both their time and energy to it.

Lāsma has done her first steps in the university only last year, but she has definitely made that time unforgettable for us all. At the very beginning, Lāsma showed great interest in the New Members' Seminar, shortly after which she took on the role of organizer and very soon led her first project "Christmas Week". Although a small project, her actions didn't end there, because she was also an activist at the Christmas ball, the organizer in "Etiķete" and qualitatively fulfilled her duties as an organizer in the team of the seminar "Mazpipari". With this, Lāsma's contribution to student union does not stop, for which she deserves the nomination “Activist of the year”, because her contribution during this short period of time is worth more than gold.

Anželika Zorova

Anželika has been an active member of the Student Union since the first year seminar ZGI, helping with various work and contributing to projects where she finds a way to help and make everything as successful as possible. She managed to take over the project of National Holiday Week, the position of organizer in “Taurenis”, the “Golden horseshoe” and many others as an activist. Anželika also represents the opinion of RSU in the Latvian Student Union, participating both in the meetings of the Council and in various work groups. Anželika has an immeasurable amount of strength and desire to help every job move towards the big goal!

For more than a year, Edvards has been a person who has significantly improved the functioning of Student Union in seminars and other events, as well as in everyday life. Edvards is always ready to help with any small or large problem, as well as take on new challenges to improve himself. Edvards is remembered by the fact that he always knows the people that are needed and knows when to use this knowledge successfully. He has excelled in various SU project organizer teams, for example, by attracting the attention of countless sponsors during both Science Month and International Student Conference 2020, helping to achieve more than one goal set by the team. In August, Edvards will also prove his skills as a project leader by organising the annual first year seminar ZGI.

Matīss Lukašēvičs

Matīss has been an activist in almost all of RSU SU projects last year, even if not officially, he often is there as an unofficial activist and does not refuse to help with RSU SU work. Matīss deserves this nomination, because while dealing with his medical studies and being a councilor of the Faculty of Medicine, he has also been a part of the 2019 Annual Awards, ZGI, Fukši, as well as often helps in organizing Council events and is an active member of the Council. Admittedly, these are not all projects that Matīss has helped to create. Matiss is a nice and friendly person who is ready to help RSU SU and jump inside the unknown.

Elīna Kopteļeva

Elīna is a person with a huge working capacity, incomparable creativity and talent. Over the past year, she has participated in countless projects as an important part of any organizing team, as a photographer capturing many events and moments in the dynamic life of Student Union, and as a singer that always adds to the program of any event. During her active career, Elīna has not only improved the representation of RSU Faculty of Communication students, thus raising the quality of studies, but has also been one of the key people in creating the International Student Conference 2020, creating an impressive visual design in the conference plenary sessions, communicating with the social sciences jury and mock trials and workshops for students at the Faculty of Communication.

Daniils Žukovs

Member of the Council for several years. He has performed his duties in good faith and brought a friendly atmosphere among the members of the council. Daniils takes care of any task that is entrusted to him and - most amazingly - he does it with great quality and with a huge sense of responsibility. He has also proved himself several times by being a part of the International Student Conference organizer team, holding the position of technical support in 2019, but in 2020 he took care of communication with local and foreign associations and various companies. Thanks to the work done by Daniils, the conference expanded its circle of cooperation partners, as well as provided great gifts and special prizes to the participants.

Reinis Ozols

Reinis is an administrator, but his involvement and responsibility go far beyond where the administrator's term ends. He is always where help is needed, showing initiative and proactivity. Reinis can be described as: "Let’s do things and chat around less!"

Supporter of the year

“Ķelmēni”

Organizing events of various capacities from 50 to 400 people, "Ķelmēnu" bread is our cooperation partner, which never ceases to surprise with its classic baking traditions, which make their product recognized throughout Latvia. "Ķelmēnu" bread will always be available for breakfast, lunch or dinner, which has become an indispensable part of every full-fledged project at RSU SU. We are grateful for the responsiveness of "Ķelmēni" and the amount of products that can be provided to students by collaborating on projects and allowing them to enjoy the quality of their product!

Dailes teātris

By cooperating with Dailes theater, we can be sure that most often, our guest lecturers will receive a great thank you - the opportunity to attend one of the performances. Today, Dailes theater is one of the flagships of culture, which is able to provide an unforgettable experience with well-known and most recognized artists in Latvia, who with their professionally perform the widest range of emotions. We are always happy to place repertoire booklets at the university, so that students are aware of the different types of performances it is possible to attend and draw energy for tomorrow, enjoying what Dailes theater can give.

Swedbank

Swedbank as a long-term cooperation partner has helped in the realisation of several projects by providing financing, premises, lecturers, books and to our RSU SU members well-known personalized RSU SU folders. We are immeasurably grateful for Swedbank's responsiveness to our ideas, which would not be possible without full cooperation. In 2019, we took the opportunity to organize the closing event of the Science Month at Swedbank, which closed the project on a large scale, as we received amazing support to provide all the best to project visitors and professionals, so RSU SU could provide high quality experience to all project participants! This is one of several examples that show that Swedbank has helped to achieve our goals by providing all available opportunities for us to build a professional image of the organization.

Merrild

Despite frequent support, Merrild is as interested in working together on the way forward as it was at the very beginning. Delicious coffee is exactly what you need to make your coffee breaks enjoyable. Merrild is one of the few companies that has supported RSU SU for years in almost all SU events, project after project, and they never refuse support. SU events are unimaginable without a hot cup of Merrild coffee, which gives each of us extra energy both by listening diligently and educating in lectures and in moments of rest with colleagues.

Ezītis miglā

“Ezītis miglā” is one of the most beloved places for every student. No matter if a work meeting or just a chill evening with friends, “Hedgehog” is the right place to be. We are glad to cooperate with “Hedgehog” and give their gifts to the participants of our events.

Cannelle Bakery

Cannelle Bakery is one of the most well-known partners in the Student Union, with their generous support and unique welcome we are able to give more to the participants involved in various projects. With the quality of Cannelle Bakery products, we can make people's day more enjoyable, allowing you to taste one of the most outstanding confectionery products in Latvia. We are very grateful for your contribution to our organization!

SIA “Mikrotīkls” is a Latvian company founded in 1996, which develops and manufactures MikroTik RouterOS software and RouterBOARD routers. The company's products are distributed all over the world and are used by Internet service providers, companies and individual users. In 2020, SIA “Mikrotīkls” became one of the general sponsors of the Riga Stradiņš University International Student Conference 2020 in "Health and Social Sciences", even in the early stages of the COVID-19 crisis, without refusing assistance and giving such important support to the conference.

Friend of the year

Faculty of Residency

The Faculty of Residency has provided great support to students in the study process, providing most of the funding and assisting RSU with the purchase of the UpToDate database. The access of UpToDate has helped a significant number of students to study and expand their horizons in the health sciences. Thanks to the Faculty of Residency RSU students have the opportunity to use UpToDate throughout 2020 and possibly more, thus improving the quality of their studies.

SIA "Centrālā laboratorija" in this academic year has shown great support to medical students with an interest in research, providing the necessary equipment and ensuring the performance of analyzes in order to achieve the goal of the research. The CL board is very responsive when the student presents an idea and tries to find possible solutions for its implementation. The Central Laboratory deserves the recognition of RSU, and potentially, in the future, it could become a cooperation partner to jointly find an opportunity for even more students to develop scientific works.

During 2019, prof. Tatjana Koke was a key person in solving students' problems. The professor was always able to find time for the students, as well as with great understanding and responsibility listened to the students' current "pain". Within the framework of last year, prof. Koķe helped the students' voice to be heard in questions about the professional bachelor's program "Law science", to arrange the study program "Medicine 2.0." the procedure for making changes, as well as expressing the need for the deans of the faculties to sign memorandums of cooperation with the Student Union in order to jointly improve the study process. The professor was one of the first representatives of RSU, who agreed to "open" the Study Regulations I and to address them with all her strength and purpose, at the same time starting to work on the Rules of Internal Procedure. Crowning all these performances, prof. Koke is always welcoming students' participation in all meetings, and since 2019 students have also participated in the internal meetings of the Department of Studies.

RSU Alumni Association

The Alumni Association has provided significant support not only to RSU graduates, but also to students, for example, by implementing the Researcher Academy project, offering various scholarships, as well as sharing experience and knowledge with students. AA unites all graduates, promoting the recognition of the RSU name and the lifelong learning of graduates. The Alumni Association creates a link with our alma mater, which is why it deserves to be the Friend of the Year.

IT department

In 2019, the Information Technology Department has helped students many times when it has been needed. IT representatives have always been welcoming, especially by helping to organize the International Student Conference 2020, when IT assistance was ten times more necessary due to the conference's complete transition to the online format.

The Infrastructure Department has been a good friend of RSU SP this year as well, always coming forward and helping when needed. Representatives of the Department of Infrastructure are always responsive and willing to participate in the improvement of the study environment. Many thanks should be said for their responsiveness and help in organizing various RSU SU projects, as well as in improving the environment and the premises, as well as in the daily improvement of students' everyday life.

Latvian Junior Doctors Association has been an inspiration for several years already, but this year has been especially glorious with various events that have been ongoing throughout the year. In November 2019, a large-scale wave of protest took place, which resulted in a protest action, in which RSU students could also participate to fight not only for their own future, but for the future of all medical staff. This campaign was also heard outside Latvia. The Latvian Junior Doctors Association has always existed for its opinion and truth, and has been an example of doing more and fighting to the end to achieve its goals!

Inspiration of the year

Matīss Linde

Matīss always keeps his head in the game, both when reviewing various documents or when he’s asking long but needed questions. Matīss is a good student representative and serves as a good inspiration for all those involved in the Student Union. You can get inspired by Matīss to discipline yourself and work hard but afterwards have a good time, but at the same time represent the interests of students. He is a good council member, senator and activist. Matīss is a person who can study during the day, ask a lot of questions during meetings, and then dance all through the night.

Ieva Cīrule

Please name a person at RSU SU who Ieva has not been able to help, inspire, support, or just listen to them? She is always by your  side, all you have to do is ask. Ieva understands people, notices their strengths, helps to illuminate them, leaving a person's weaknesses in the shadows. Not a single SU member after talking with Ieva has walked away without a smile.

International Student Conference 2020 organizing committee

On March 27 and 28, the International Student Conference 2020 took place in a rather unusual and unprecedented format - online. Taking into account that the state of emergency in Latvia started on March 13, the team of ISC 2020 organizers had exactly two weeks to re-plan and implement the event in the online mode. The fact that the conference was managed to be kept at the same high level online only shows the motivation of the whole organizing team and the amount of work involved. Undoubtedly, a lot of work was done in the preparation of the conference throughout the year, but special emphasis should be placed on the re-planning process in the last weeks. The work of the team of ISC 2020 organizers serves as an example and inspiration for everyone - motivated people are able to do everything, even turn a seemingly unreal idea into something real.

Toms Mārtiņš Smilga

Toms started working in the Student Union very recently, but with a great passion for science. In a short period of time, he was ready to jump into the shoes of the Deputy Head of Science Affairs and was left without a Head of Science for a while, but also kept the whole direction in check. In less than a month, he got acquainted with his direction from A to Z and very successfully communicated with the leaders of the Student Scientific societies. Everyone can get the work vigor and learn the perseverance and self-motivation from Toms, as he combines studies at the Faculty of Medicine with a position in the Student Union.

Māris Lapšovs

Māris has been a member of RSU SU for a long time, and he never refuses help. Taking into account Māris' career in the Student Union as a senator, chairman, and previously also the head of the Academic Department, Māris can be briefly described as an inspiration. Wide range of knowledge on various issues, strong opinion and willingness to help. Seeing Māris's achievements while working in SU, working on internal and national issues, arises the desire to work with the same quality as him! Māris is able to inspire every new and experienced SU member and push at the right moment for the person to cross their boundaries and do more.

Aija Tumova

Aija is the head of the Academic relations of RSU SU, before that she worked as the deputy head of the Academic relations. Aija has worked on the Study Regulations 1, the Rules of Internal Procedure and the Academic Integrity Policy, as well as other documents important to students. She has organized academic seminars, led lectures and working groups on topical topics related to the study process. It is important for her to represent students and solve problem situations. She is a person who will always do everything in her power and more, as well as motivate others to do more. You can always contact Aija for advice on any academic issue where a solution will definitely be found.

Kristīne Tenisa

Last year, Kristīne jumped on a train, which, to put it mildly, moved  forward at an incredible speed  and replaced two Heads of Communication within six months. She was elected head of the communication department and immediately began working with planners and other matters, including ZGI (at that time without a deputy). Throughout the half-year, Kristīne moved forward and even when she was not elected as the head of the communications on the new Board, she did not leave the organization, but took on the draft of the Annual Award ceremony, which due to global pandemic has lasted almost half a year instead of the planned two months. Kristine's work is truly seen and she definitely is a person you can get inspired by.

Michaela Ilka Angelina Dorszewski

Michaela is an absolutely amazing person, who’s kind, thoughtful, intelligent, and strong. She has a warm and welcoming presence that makes people gravitate towards her. She's currently the semester leader for the 3rd (now going to 4th) semester medicine students and she has done so much to improve our academic experience throughout the pandemic. She's written endless emails, sat with heads of department on conference calls, fought for better testing conditions, all while still helping out the various groups when in trouble. Through all of that still managed to find the time to be a loving and supportive friend, who deserves this award.

Innovation of the year

Student Guide

For several years the student union has been developing its “Freshman’s ABC”, which allowed students of the first study year to feel more comfortable at university, to begin studies more successfully and even to complete their first assignments and tests. At the beginning of last year, student service representatives approached the SU, which encouraged the development of common material to make it attractive and include all relevant information. With great effort the first Student Guide was developed, which gained great resonance and excellent reviews from first-year students! As of mid-September, there were no copies in both the Student Service and SU offices, as all the guides were taken, even among master’ s degree students.

Green week

The “Green Week” project, formerly known as the “Green Month”, was always looking for its place under the sun and searching to implement the concept of reaching the widest possible audience. In February, the Head of the Social affairs wanted the project to be wound down, but the project leader, Anna showed that the project had a major role and significant contribution to the university. A completely new concept was created that included both lectures and masterclasses, two of which were healthy cooking workshops, so the vacancies were quickly filled up. The project also motivated university staff to develop more waste sorting alternatives that are freely available, and the development of the internal policy on environmental sustainability.

New member seminar

In fact, the New Member seminar is nothing new, but it was just last year that it “re-emerged”. In a different form, with a different programme, save only the purpose and the name. New members got educated for two days and enjoyed SU life from all possible angles. Of the 30 members, a larger proportion became the new members of the Student Union, who organised events and assisted in everyday work, and who knows, where their path will follow further. But it is clear that the “revival” of the New Member seminar was very productive and certainly the greatest thanks have to be given to the project leader.

Science month hackathon

Science Month has already been organised in cooperation with RTU SP for several years. But the 2019 Science Month featured a novelty that brought the event an unseen added value. The Science month hackathon, which took place on October 26th, was an idea hackathon, during which participants emerged from absolutely nothing to a real idea in just 12 hours. The event was organised in cooperation with EIT Health, one of the largest organisations contributing to innovation and technological development in Europe. The winners of the hackathon were given the opportunity to represent Latvia in the international hackathon “EIT Health Summit” in Paris, in which the Science Month hackathon team got a place. In general, nothing has been ever seen before , and therefore deserves the Innovation Award!

Russian language anamnesis video

The idea of making a video about patient’s history collecting in Russian language was born at the end of 2017, when, as a result of high demand, Russian language courses were offered to students of the Faculty of Medicine. During 2019, Daniils Žukovs made this idea a reality and created several attractive, high-quality and interesting videos, which can now be found in the e-studies of the study course "Introduction to Clinical Medicine (Propaedeutics)" and complements the study materials available in the course. The video was made with the idea not only to help students collect a history in Russian, but also to learn the principles of collecting a history. Thanks to Daniils, his team and Dr. Sergejs Babikovs's work, we can be proud of the study material created by the students!

Growth of the year

Lāsma Ludborža

Since the first day of studying, it had been obvious how active Lāsma is, and that she would certainly be the main organizer at all events. She always tries to participate in any project in which she can get involved and doesn't matter - as an organizer, activist, or simply a provider of moral support. Even if it bothers her rest and sleep, she'll be there anyway. The presence of Lāsma in any event is helpful because she possesses an immeasurable positivity and the ability to find ways to resolve a situation in the event of a mishap. With each project she participates in, Lāsma develops her capacity to figure out, react, organize and communicate. At the moment, Lāsma is recognized by almost every member of RSU SU thanks to her active participation in all or most of the projects, both the manager and the organizer.

Paula Feldmane

From the first days in the university, Paula began to participate actively in SU activities. She took risks and even prepared to run for deputy Head of Academic affairs in her first semester. As a student of her first year of study, she became a councilor and later also a senator. Improving swiftly,  she became Head of Foreign Affairs in January and has repeatedly defended the interests of students and presented the RSU SU in the ministries and the LSA. Not all people are able to learn and accomplish as much as Paula has done.

Anna Kricka

Anna Kricka started her own way in the Student Union as a “green girl”, leading the Green Week project. For the first time, the project gained high publicity and opinion in the university and was made available to the foreign public. Anna did not stop there, investing her work throughout the next semester to improve the social dimension of the university, both by promoting environmental sustainability and accessibility. In November Anna was elected Head of the Social matters, where she continued to fulfill her duties conscientiously and to bring fresh breeze into the  Social matters and SU. She welcomed the deployment of printers in service groups, helped to improve the Student hostel environment, continued discussions on access to databases, and helped make psychological support available to students when needed most. Anna is a great student with a Student Union in her green heart, with endless eagerness to look wider and encourage others to be innovative and not to be afraid of the new!

Toms Mārtiņš Smilga

Toms had participated briefly in Student Union before, but he had made a greater contribution when he was elected Deputy Head of Science affairs. That time was a big test to the Science affairs as the conference was already approaching and then it was rescheduled very rapidly to online format. In the first month, Tom took all the capacity of Science affairs, even though he was only a deputy. It did not frighten him much, but it gave him great energy and responsibility by embarking on a remote study process and also ensuring that the Scientific societies operate remotely. Tom is a real energy charge when others need an encouraging spirit, but he can also be serious when the big job needs to be driven forward!

Sintija Kukaine

In 2019 Sintija became a distinguished directional representative and innovator from a very inexperienced Head of Science Affairs. During Sintijas's activity, countless projects were successfully implemented and coordinated, which in terms of quality reached new heights, including the Researcher Academy,  whose renewed concept rapidly contributed to the development of research activities at university, the month of Science, in which the winners of the organised hackathon also became international winners, and finally the first online Student International Conference 2020 involving more than 1 500 international participants and specialists. The key to Sintijas's success is her enormous workforce, accountability and precision, and her desire to pursue entirely new and creative ideas. Although she will not continue the course of her board in 2020, Sintija remains an important senior member of the Science Affairs, a source of information and a guru.

Aija Tumova

Aija began her course in the Student Union without realising that from a very young member of SU she became an important part of the student representation, contributing to the improvement of the quality of studies at university. During 2019, Aija was not only a Deputy of Academic Affairs , but a member of the Academic Affairs work, increasing to the post of Head of affairs during the year and continuing her work on key university documents this year, including the Rules of Procedure of the Studies I and the Internal Rules of Procedure. Among lecturers, Aija has represented students at the New Lecturer School and other online seminars, highlighting the challenges that every student faces in the study process. In addition, she monitored the development of a Russian anamnesis video, which has been an initiative created by students to improve the Propaedeutic course. Aija's commitment to SU lies in her unmeasurable workforce and quality, with which she is attached to every day's work and challenge.

Mess of the year

Faculty of Pharmacy

The Faculty of Pharmacy has two departments - the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and the Department of Pharmacology, which implement pharmacology study courses. Pharmaceutical Pharmacology is a newly developed study course attached to the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, previously implemented by the Department of Pharmacology. The faculty has shown not only decentralized management, but the new study course at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry has a different way of teaching. However, at the higher management level, it was possible to coordinate this so that the students would get the appropriate attitude and content, but we will receive the result of the decision from the graduating students.

Alongside with the work on the study program "Medicine 2.0", RSU is actively working on the implementation of the 6th clinically practical year, which will include up to 18 weeks of practice in health care institutions. In order to ensure the desire of RSU students to continue to participate in the labor market, RSU SU and RSU have jointly tried to cooperate with the Ministry of Health to define the status of students in medical institutions during the internship, as well as to pay two medical scholarships. RSU and RSU SU have been organizing negotiations at the national level with the Ministry of Health for almost a year, but they have still not led to a tangible result.

Despite the fact that COVID-19 was not a planned event in the life of RSU, a gradual transition to e-testing has already taken place. Therefore, PIC, StD and IT have been working on e-environment testing guidelines since the middle of last year. In context, even COVID distance learning did not speed up this process. All this culminated in a number of problems, which, of course, had to be "digested" by the students:

  1. The departments did not have a common policy for organizing e-environment tests, which led to the type of tests varying from what the department decided. All this ensured that for some tests students were asked to place mirrors behind them.

  2. In cases where there was a failure in the IT systems and the whole test failed, the student was left completely unprotected and waiting only for what the department would decide about his failure. It also gave the departments a great deal of responsibility for what to do if their work disappears during the process, since no one foresaw such scenarios.

Ministry of Education and Science and amendments to the law on higher education institutions

This year has been oversaturated initially with a conceptual report on changes in the governance and typology of higher education institutions and later with a draft law on amendments to the law on higher education institutions. All parties involved have actively sought to engage, but so far this has been very indirect. The Ministry of Education and Science made every effort to move the conceptual report and the draft law into very quick steps, hastily forgetting such decades-long matters within universities, such as university autonomy and several important institutions for which the Ministry of Education and Science does not see application. At the moment, the situation has improved quite noticeably - at least there is a desire to involve experts so that the amendments are not so drastic and intolerable, but the slack in the autonomy of higher education institutions is a good enough reason to nominate the situation as "Mess of the Year".

Horseshoe of the year

The Night of Royals was a great end to 2019. To quote one senior SU member, “like a cherry on top.” The team was perfectly cohesive and every activist, organizer, musician and participant knew what to do and when to do it. From the wheel of fortune to the viewing of "Home Alone", the ball was accompanied by high-class musicians and, if there is one word that describes it, by diversity, people had the opportunity to listen to classical music performed by the string quartet, dancing to the accompaniment of a well - known DJ in Latvia, participate in the lottery or get prizes from the wheel of fortune, immerse yourself in virtual reality or very realistically dance  to the musical group "Vectēva papirosi" played songs.

Four halls, more than ten activities, one evening - everything is perfectly organized and executed. In this project, even the smallest details were thought through, the duties and responsibilities were explained to everyone, and the project manager held a tablet with an evening plan in hand so that nothing would be forgotten or violated. It is not possible to describe in words the feelings that arose when you were on the spot and saw everything happening. Maybe from the sidelines this ball was nothing special, kept as good as before, but the internal organization and cohesion was fascinating. The Night of Royals definitely taught everyone involved something of their own and something special.

International Student conference 2020

Not only did Marija create ISC'20 with a clear goal, but despite all the difficulties that arose with the emergency, she was able to create the image that in any kind of critical situation it is possible to adapt and achieve it if you put the time and energy in it. ISC'20 became an icebreaker, proving that a solution can always be found, no matter how hopeless the situation may seem.

Memorandum of cooperation

2019 will remain in history as a time of raising tuition fees, as the university started to increase tuition fees in several faculties. A new initiative was initiated by RSU SU to create a memorandum of cooperation with each faculty, where it is planned to increase tuition fees. The memoranda included several points that the faculties promise to improve and also implement in everyday life, increasing the quality of studies. The signed memoranda are the beginning of a new and high-quality cooperation between students and the university, with the common goal of improving the quality of studies.

Joint admission to the residency

Joint admission to the residency is an important step forward, because students who have just graduated from the Medical faculty of RSU and of University of Latvia have the opportunity to enter the residency under uniform conditions. RSU SU has actively participated in the first joint admission process, participating in the development of questions, as well as providing an observer in the interview process. Also, a single admission to residency is an important step to a joint final medical exam between RSU and LU.

Academic honesty

Academic honesty is a well-known concept that is encountered not only in the study process, but also during examinations. In its turn, the Academic Integrity Policy has been in the development process since 2016 and both student representatives and lecturers and the Pedagogical Growth Center have worked diligently on the development of this policy, as a result of which it has been developed and approved at the June 16, 2020 Senate sitting. The goal of the academic integrity policy is to integrate academic integrity and research into the study process, to promote the observance of the principles of academic integrity not only among students, but also among RSU academic and general staff.

Ex-member of the board of the year

Linda Skulme

Linda Skulme started her path in Student Union similarly to most students - by becoming an activist.  However, her capacity and desire to belong to the Student Union grew, and Linda became the Head of the Culture and Sports, and the following year - the chairman. Linda’s love for RSU SU and desire to give a helping hand is immeasurable. What is definitely not typical for Linda is to intrude on your opinion. She will definitely share it, give the best advice, but never present her opinion as the only right one. Linda is an example to many Ex-members of how, even after leaving important SU positions, it is possible to make a significant contribution to the development of both the organization and the alma mater!

Liene Vaivode

In the Board of RSU SP in 2018, Liene performed the duties of the Head of the Foreign Affairs, promoting cooperation with other Student Unions and organizations of other higher education institutions. Even after the end of the term of the Board, Liene continued to get involved in the life of SU, participating in events and conducting lectures in seminars. Liene's contribution to the representation of students’ interests in the Student Union of Latvia, becoming the head of the LSA academic field in 2019, should also be noted. Liene deserves thanks from RSU SU for her work.

Elizabete Ribalkina

Since gaining the status of Ex-member of the board, Elizabete has been an important part of the daily life of the Student Union, actively following current events and introducing a sense of responsibility in every member of the Student Union. As a representative of the Alumni Association, Elizabete has been an active participant in the implementation of the projects "Etiquette" and "Research Academy".  In 2019, thanks to the renewed project concept, the “Research Academy” reached new heights, promoting the creation of research works at the university. In addition to the long-term representation of students at the Faculty of Dentistry as a councilor, Elizabete was a very important part of the International Student Conference 2020 organizing team, proving her enormous ability and persistence by organizing extra-curricular masterclasses in addition to visa responsibilities.

Natālija Šilova

Natālija Šilova finished her active career at RSU SU in the beginning of 2018, however, during 2019 she was a frequent guest in the Student Union, who never refused advice or help. It was nice to see that Natālija could also find an opportunity to join RSU SU events and seminars.

Science society of the year

Oncology

Oncology Scientific society has been widely popularized among other Scientific societies by organizing corporate meetings with other societies. Members of Oncology Scientific society who presented a topic received ESMO books. There has been excellent mentors and a very approachable and interested leader - Anna. Worth mentioning - a new type of practical session with clinical cases has been organized ("virtual polyclinic").

Ophthalmilogy SZP

Despite being a small scientific society by number of members and visitors, quite a lot has been done this year - participation in RSU Health Day 2019, which employs members practically - they measured eye pressure and a certain visual acuity, which was also the subject of the Debates “For/Against” 2019 “IOP measuring frequency”. For the first time, AN Ophthalmology section was created IN RSU International Student Conference 2020, which is a significant success, since all sections of scientific research were composed by members of a group in cooperation with foreign students who also participated in the conference.

As every year, a public educational event on Glaucoma Day 2020 was organised this year, in which we informed the public about the developments in the diagnosis, treatment of glaucoma and the members of the group also participated in Glaucoma Day hosted by PSKUS.

Microbiology SZP

Microbiology  scientific society develops and implements increasingly ambitious projects every year, boosting students' interest in Microbiology. This year, the society took an even wider step towards excellence: in the event of an emergency, refocusing and organizing the first on-line theoretical session with colleagues from Pharmacology and Infectology SZP, organizing one of the most ambitious meetings in the history of the COVID-19. At a meeting of more than 120 people, the new disease was examined multidisciplinary in order to provide students with the current knowledge. Scientific works developed within the group have succeeded in ISC 2020. In addition, an outing lesson was organised to Valmiera under JMA to promote the interest of potential students in the field of Microbiology.

At the end of the academic year, the most ambitious project of the group was the Microbiology Olympiad. Although online, the organisers sought to bring it closer to the face-to-face regime, both by creating stages and by organising an opening and closing ceremony in which the university's management took part. Although organised for the second consecutive year, this year the Olympiad with 76 participants was successfully raised to a higher level, competing with the “big” Olympiads - Anatomy and Histology, leaving an opportunity to compete for the status of the most ambitious olympiad next season.

Pharmacology

For the scientific society to be successful and valuable, there must be a great and brilliant mentor. One such society certainly exists - The scientific society of pharmacology that talks about the most important, popular, and also forgotten topics, and for which mentor Mikhail Gerchikov always finds time and invites other colleagues - doctors, professors, field experts to various discussions with students. This society is valuable not only with the high quality but also with the mentor's demands and organisation, so that the group is really high quality and useful for students.
