On May 31, 2025, an inspiring event "Breaking Barriers" brought RSU students together to break down walls and speak about belonging

Breaking Barriers – it’s not just about talking, it’s about taking action.

On May 31, the RSU Student House transformed into a space filled with courage, openness, and genuine human connection. The event Breaking Barriers brought students together to reflect on prejudice, belonging, and support – both for themselves and for others.

Throughout the day, we enjoyed inspiring lectures, honest conversations, warm food, and heartfelt laughter that lasted well into the evening. We listened, shared, understood one another, and broke the ice – over cups of coffee and simply by being people beside people.

A special thank you to our two speakers:

Santa Ogrina led the first lecture with heartfelt warmth and strength. She helped us face the biggest barriers – the ones within ourselves. Fear, low self-worth, limiting beliefs… Santa reminded us that freedom begins with the inner work we do.

In the second lecture, Reičela Heinrihsone shared deeply personal stories and offered practical insights on how to create a more inclusive environment in our daily lives. Her warm yet direct approach made us reflect – are we building bridges between people, or do we sometimes become the walls? Her talk was a powerful reminder that real change starts with a choice – to listen, to understand, and to unite.

This event came to life thanks to a passionate team – project leads Džiliāna Heinrihsone and Kitija Andrejeva, the heart of the activities Annemarija Lorēna Priede, PR fairy Marija Elizabete Šneidere, precise participant coordinator Kristers Staune, responsive sponsor liaison Nikola Gudele, and our technical support Arnis Mežinskis. Each of them contributed their heart, mind, and energy to make Breaking Barriers more than just an event – they made it an experience.

They gave not only their time, but also their hearts, ideas, and passion to ensure Breaking Barriers would become a lasting memory.

We broke barriers. And perhaps, we also broke some assumptions about what a single day can truly change.
