From February 1 to 28, applications for Student Research and Innovation Grants took place. In 2020, with the financial support of Rīga Stradiņš university, RSU Business Incubator “B-Space”, RSU Student Union and RSU Institute of Dentistry, Student Research and Innovation Grants were created to support and motivate Rīga Stradiņš university students to conduct research, develop entrepreneurship and lift their qualifications.

The first application for Student Research and Innovation Grants ended with many more applications than initially expected, which shows how active RSU students are and that the current situation in the country does not hold back students from research. 28 applications were received for the new initiative, which will be implemented in such platforms as RSU Business Incubator, RSU Vertically Integrated Projects and student scientific groups. There were no limits to students' creative and innovative ideas, as evidenced by the total amount requested in the grants, which was more than 100,000 EUR.

As there were more applications than could be supported, on March 10 the full commission examined all the received applications and evaluated them in accordance with the procedure specified in the regulations. Although all applications were evaluated with high results, it was decided to award grants to six project teams due to limited financial resources. Also, two of the supported teams received funding from our supporter - RSU Dental Institute, which financially supports research in the field of dentistry.

The teams that were supported by the grant have a lot of work to do over the next two years to implement their projects and achieve significant results. At the end of the grant, the teams are expected to have one of the following results - a presentation at an international scientific conference, a publication in an international scientific journal or a presentation of a business idea.

Many thanks to our financial supporters - Rīga Stradiņš university, RSU Business Incubator “B-Space”, RSU Student Union and RSU Dental Institute.
