Run for Council elections!
Just as every year when autumn has arrived, a new cycle begins not only in nature, but also in Riga Stradins University Student Union. This year from 25th of October to 5th of November every student of RSU is invited to run for RSU SU Council elections.
RSU SU Council is a platform for possibility of growth, where you not only can visit council meetings and workgroups and express your opinion, but also make decisions about corrections in amendments, monitor RSU SU budget and the work of RSU SU Board, as well as elect student representatives, such as Faculty Councillors and Senators, and also be involved in all kinds of projects and events as activist or organizer. Just as any student of RSU, Council members come up with ideas and proposals of how the study process can be improved in all of the faculties.

RSU SU Council consists of 36 elected Council members who represent all faculties and International Student Department. Each candidate can be voted by the students from their faculty or department. Depending on the amount of students in each faculty and department, the amount of mandates - Council members with voting rights - is determined.

- What does RSU SU Council do?
RSU SU Council is the main decision-making body of RSU Student Union. The members of the Council meet every month at the Council meeting. During the meeting, student representatives are elected into various RSU institutions, such as the Faculty Council, various committees, etc., as well as topical issues of RSU SU and RSU are discussed.
- What will be my responsibilities as a Council member?
Attend Council meetings, elect and approve Board members, get involved in the activities of the Board, attend work groups, supervise the work of RSU SU Board and ISA, get involved in the development of SU, approve the position of faculty councilors, LSA councilors, senators and other student representatives, consider and, if necessary, reject various RSU SU proposals, give recommendations and discuss about various decisions and improvements that impact all students of RSU! - What is the difference between Council and Board?
Council is the main decision-making body and Board is the executive body. Council supervises and follows the work of Board.
- How is Council elected?
Each candidate can be voted by the students from their faculty or department. Depending on the amount of students in each faculty and department, the amount of mandates - Council members with voting rights - is determined. - Can I be both a Council member and take up another position?
Yes, you can! The only position that forbids you to be a Council member is a Board member position.
- Are all faculties elected into Council?

- Can I run for Council elections only once during my studies?
No, you can run for Council elections every year.
- How much time does being a Council member take? Is it possible to combine it with studies?
Your involvement in RSU SU Council depends on you. The main responsibilities of a Council member are to attend Council meetings once a month and get acquainted with Council meeting documents. In addition, Council members can be involved in various Board affairs and make suggestions for improvements in either of them.
