Maria Gonçalves
International student department, 4th year What kind of a Union member will you be? I feel like I am a mature and responsible person, that have on my best interest to make good decisions for the greater good. And so, applying for this position, would mean that I would be willing to participate in those decisions and consequently, promoting togetherness with associations such as RSU SP and RSU ISA. I am also very methodical, well organized and outgoing that likes to take on new challenges and projects, so I believe this will be a positive experience for all.
| Why do you want to candidate in RSU SU Council elections? I have been living in Riga for the past 4 years now and despite having my home country at heart, Latvia also has a piece of it. Latvia has enchanted me since the beginning along with its history and beauty, and no matter what anyone says, I similarly consider it my country. Consequently, as you would have in your country, there are problems still to be tackled specially regarding the equal opportunity and rights that should be given to international students, the same way as locals have. We all live here, and so we should promote acceptance and living in harmony with each other so that we all feel at home. One thing that should absolutely be introduced in our university? This might seem repetitive but I consider of great importance the engagement of international students in the several societies and boards that our university provides to us all. Not only engagement together with latvian students is crucial, engagement of more internationals to several boards and interest groups is key for progress.
