Psychology student interest group

The Psychology Circle is for students who are interested in the profession of psychology and want to learn more about it from a scientific point of view.

The aim of the class is to introduce students to the professional fields of psychology in Latvia from a research perspective. It will help them to understand what a psychologist's work looks like in practice, when it incorporates the latest scientific findings and evidence-based practice. Participation in the Circle can also help students to choose a specific direction for their Master's studies or topics for coursework and undergraduate work. Finally, students can gain valuable knowledge for their future profession.

Theoretical sessions of the Circle provide in-depth coverage of the six areas of psychology adopted in Latvia and their current research topics. A psychologist who is certified in the relevant field of psychology is invited to each theoretical session to talk about his/her experience in the profession and to answer students' questions. In addition, the group offers the opportunity to develop research papers and to learn about a structured approach to choosing the topic of a course and a bachelor's thesis.

Practical sessions develop practical skills such as developing research ideas, analysing published research, analysing film content, understanding and recognising the differences between different areas of psychology, engaging in discussion about the application of research in psychology, etc. The field sessions, on the other hand, allow to get to know the working environment in different institutions and centres, thus giving an insight into the workplaces available in Latvia, as well as to learn more about the Latvian research developments and test development.

Information on the topics and times of the meetings can be found on the Circle's Facebook page.
