Psychology student interest group

The psychology group is intended for those students who are interested in the profession of psychology and want to learn more about this profession from a scientific perspective.

The aim of the group is to introduce students to the areas of professional activity of a psychologist in Latvia from a research perspective. This will help them understand what a psychologist's work looks like in practice, when it incorporates the latest scientific discoveries and evidence-based practice is carried out. Also, participation in the group can help students choose a specific direction for master's studies or topics for course and bachelor's theses. Finally, students can gain valuable knowledge for their future profession.

The theoretical sessions of the group provide an in-depth look at the six areas of psychology adopted in Latvia and current research topics in them. A psychologist who is certified in the relevant field of psychology is invited to each theoretical session to talk about their experience in their profession and answer students' questions. In addition, within the group, it is possible to develop scientific papers and get acquainted with a structured approach to choosing a topic for course and bachelor's theses.

Practical sessions improve practical skills such as developing ideas relevant to research, analyzing published research, analyzing film content, the ability to understand and recognize differences between different fields of psychology, the ability to engage in discussions about the application of research in the professional activities of a psychologist, etc. Field sessions, in turn, allow you to get to know the work environment in various institutions and centers, thus providing an insight into available jobs in Latvia, as well as allowing you to learn more about Latvian research developments and test development.

Information about the topics and times of the sessions can be found on the group's Facebook page.
