Students who are involved in the field of obstetrics and gynecology have the opportunity to become members and visitors of the scientific group of gynecology and obstetrics students.
Students meet once a month in theoretical meetings of the group, where they present their own reports on current topics. In theoretical sessions, students expand their knowledge and gain experience by speaking in front of an audience. The group's mentor dr. Ināra Miltiņa and guest mentors are also present promoting discussions.
In the practical meetings of the group, members have the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary for the specialty. The practical sessions at the Medical Education Technology Center use mock-ups and simulators (such as gynecological laparoscopy) to acquire surgical skills and childbirth management skills. Students also have the opportunity to visit clinics, where their managers provide a more detailed insight into the industry, as well as without denying knowledge by answering students' questions (for example, we have visited My Clinic Riga, Medical Genetics and Prenatal Diagnostics Clinic, etc.).
The members and visitors of the group additionally participate in events organized by Riga Stradiņš University such as Health Week, Academy of Young Doctors, Science Week, as well as go on a trip to one of the Latvian regional hospitals. The group has close cooperation with the Latvian Association of Gynecologists and Obstetricians and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
One of the main tasks of the student scientific group is to promote the development of scientific works. Last year, the scientific works developed within the group were defended at international conferences with very good success and award-winning places. At the end of each study year, the Golden Mirror Olympiad takes place, where you can test your knowledge.
The group cooperates with the scientific groups of gynecology and obstetrics students in Estonia and Lithuania, and traditionally organizes field meetings to one of the Baltic States.
The members of the group meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 16.00 Riga Maternity Hospital, Melka auditorium. Place and time may change. Current information is published on the group's Facebook page, as well as sent electronically to group members and visitors.
