Sexology Student Scientific Interest Group
The Sexology Student Scientific Interest Group (SSIG) aims to provide students from various disciplines and years of study with the opportunity to gain a broader understanding of human sexuality – including sexual orientation and gender identity, the development of sexual relationships and sexual development. It will provide an insight into the types of sexual disorders and deviations, their causes, and the possibilities for diagnosis and treatment. Attention is also paid to the sexuality of different social groups, such as people with disabilities or chronic illnesses, children and older people.
Any student with an interest in the field of sexology is invited to become a member or visitor of the Sexology SSIG. Throughout the academic year, the society organises theoretical and practical sessions. During the theoretical sessions, members present papers they have prepared themselves on topical issues not covered in the undergraduate programmes. This helps to develop students’ competence in producing high-quality papers, including skills in selecting reliable sources of information, reading scientific articles critically, and formatting their work appropriately.
Each year, we continue to collaborate with other SSIGs, emphasising sexology as a multidisciplinary field of science that brings together medicine, psychology, anthropology and sociology. This year, the society will be collaborating with the Pharmacology, Gynaecology, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy, Nutrition and Sports Science SSIG!
One of the group’s main objectives is to encourage students to get involved in scientific research, and it is often here that students take their first steps in science. Within the Sexology SSIG, students can carry out scientific research projects under the guidance of experienced and knowledgeable mentors, thereby contributing to the overall advancement of research in sexology.
